Jurupa Valley double shooting leaves one dead

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a Jurupa Valley shooting that left one man dead and another man with gunshot injuries Thursday afternoon, Aug. 13.

The deadly shooting happened near Little Caesar’s Pizza in the Jurupa Springs shopping center on the 8900 block of Limonite Ave., near Collins St.

Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the parking lot outside Little Caesar’s Pizza about 3:07 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez has since said of the deadly incident.

When officials arrived they found two men with gunshot injuries. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures on the more critically injured victim until paramedics arrived and took over. Despite life-saving efforts the victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene. 

The victim has since been identified as Alejandro Barragan, 39, of Jurupa Valley.

A second man with gunshot wounds sought his own transportation to an area hospital and his name has not been released. Officials did not specify the nature or extent of his injuries and his current condition was not available as of this report.

Deputies secured a crime scene and requested members of the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit respond to the location and assume the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, officials identified and interviewed multiple witnesses and recovered a handgun, several expended cartridge cases, and additional items of evidence related to the deadly incident.

Contacted for more information about the shooting, Riverside Sheriff’s Cpl. Murphy said a person of interest is in custody; however, he had no further information regarding the suspect’s name or charges.

“An updated press release will be issued once additional information is available,” said Murphy.

This investigation is currently ongoing and no further information will be released at this time, according to Ramirez.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 16 grandchildren.
