Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Lake Elsinore Station and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene about 2:22 p.m., after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Veronica Amparano later said of the deadly accident.

When officials arrived they found a critically injured motorcycle rider down in the roadway and immediately began life-saving efforts.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

“The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office once positive identification can be established, and next of kin can be notified,” said Amparano.

Based on the circumstances, members of the Lake Elsinore Station’s Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their preliminary investigation deputies determined the victim killed in the crash was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson southbound on Avenue 6 “at a high rate of speed” just before the collision.

“The driver appears to have lost control of the motorcycle and slid into oncoming traffic .. where he collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Avenue 6,” described Amparano.

“The cause of this collision is still under investigation, and it is unknown if alcohol may be a factor,” Amparano added.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information becomes available.
