Corona man, 54, ID’d after fiery wreck

CORONA, Calif. — A man was killed in a fiery, single-vehicle wreck after an SUV crashed into a tree and pole outside a business in the 19900 block of Temescal Canyon Road, between Tom Barnes and Coronita streets, in an unincorporated area of Corona early Sunday evening, Dec. 13.

California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire-Riverside, and AMR were dispatched to Lalo’s Tires around 6:40 p.m., after receiving reports of a vehicle that crashed outside the tire shop, Cal Fire officials have since reported.

911 callers reported that the driver or another occupant of the SUV had fled the scene on foot after the crash and told emergency dispatchers that the vehicle was beginning to catch fire.

When firefighters arrived they found an SUV with heavy front-end damage that was fully engulfed in fire.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered the body of a man who died in the fiery wreck. He was declared deceased by paramedics at the scene.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have identified Bryan Metzger, 54, of Corona, as the man who died in the crash. A coroner’s release indicated he passed away at 6:51 p.m.

As of this report, the identity of the driver or other person who was reported to have fled the scene was unknown and CHP is still working to identify the person.

CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and have not ruled out intoxication, drowsy or distracted driving, or a medical crisis as possible contributing factors in the deadly incident.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
