Idyllwild motorcyclist, former HHS wrestling coach, ID’d after deadly Moreno Valley crash
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed after a collision involving a passenger van in an unincorporated area of Moreno Valley north of San Jacinto Saturday morning, April 3. Although very few details have been reported, the deadly crash happened at the intersection of Gilman Springs Road and Bridge Street, according to a Cal Fire-Riverside social media release.
Saturday morning’s crash was the first of two fatal accidents involving motorcycle riders in southwest Riverside County the same day, followed by a second, solo-vehicle, deadly accident in Perris later in the afternoon.

California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire-Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the area at just after 8 a.m. after receiving reports of a rider down following a two-vehicle traffic collision.
When officials arrived they found an accident scene involving a motorcycle and van. Despite life-saving measures, the motorcycle rider succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene, according to Cal Fire.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials have since identified the rider killed in the collision as Aaron Rhoades, 45, of Idyllwild. A coroner’s release indicated Rhoades was pronounced deceased at 8:20 a.m.
Rhoades was well known and thoroughly respected throughout the Hemet and San Jacinto valley from his years working as a walk-on, volunteer wrestling coach at Hemet High School, where his wife is still listed as a wrestling coach on the school’s website.

No other injuries reported, according to Cal Fire, who reported the cause of Saturday’s crash remains under investigation.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
