Last year the tyrannical coronavirus shutdowns canceled my 20th-anniversary plans with my bride. That celebration was stolen by malfeasant office holders bent on circumnavigating the law and fiat rule.

Thankfully, this year we were able to redeem the celebration by traveling to San Antonio’s Riverwalk. We flew Delta Airlines since our closest major airport is a hub, and they had not yet criticized the great state of Georgia for passing some common-sense election reform. (Although we would be hard-pressed to find an airline that doesn’t infringe on our rights at this moment in time.)

I have been against the covering of my face from the beginning. As some previous pieces detailed [1], I have done quite a bit of research. I conclude that the wearing of masks as a preventative measure during a “pandemic,” such as the 2019 variant of the well-known coronavirus, is nothing more than signaling virtue. I am part of the rare breed Dennis Prager would salute when meeting in the street (if you have not read it yet, please avail yourself of his latest op-ed on Townhall.com [2]).

Nevertheless, at the threat of losing my liberty and especially the right to pursue happiness, I donned a mask while flying the friendly skies from Detroit to San Antonio.

Please allow me to explain. As quickly as you enter the terminal, there is a mask brown-shirt ensuring compliance with the threat of removal from your flight and the airport property and prosecution. Before the named President’s ushering into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the masks were highly recommended, if not required, but you could traverse the airport concourses maskless. It was not until you boarded the aircraft where that strict enforcement ensued. Now, in the shadow of the executive order [3] cognitively signed by the acting President, the enforcement has escalated to a form of soft tyranny.

Over the loudspeakers in the terminal was Orwellian droning of the requirement. (I believe Orwell himself would be dumbfounded at the worldwide absconding of common sense and personal and national pride.) Once on the aircraft, the flight attendants and the safety video reinforced the mask mandate ad nauseum. It was enough to make a man scream in defiance. No one did that, though, including yours truly, because to do so would brand you a non-conformist, cause your forced removal from the aircraft, and possibly prosecution.

Into San Antonio. We stayed at a nicely apportioned hotel that did not enforce the wearing of masks, although I understand the cities in Texas have the option to require masks even if the state says they are not necessary. Many establishments did enforce this awful abridgment of common sense to the detriment of our dollars. In our experience there, two restaurants and one wine store called “Total Wine” refused to serve us without donning the virtuous, nonsensical and worthless mask. The wine store allowed us to browse for over 30 minutes, but they forbade us from checking out without donning a mask. It was ridiculous. They could have completed the transaction in less time than they spent explaining why they refused to exchange our money for a few bottles of wine. But I digress.

And for the record, I refuse to wear a mask, even if it is posted on the doors of the establishment because I am choosing to peacefully protest the decision of conforming or being branded a heretic, and I will politely try to explain that should a confrontation ensue. If the place of business is adamant, I willfully leave and take my business elsewhere as I did with “Total Wine’s” abject failure to think objectively. I’m confident the corporate elite mandate these dictates as a virtue-signaling form of cultural sensitivity, and the helpless workers have a choice to submit to the draconic orders or be released.

Still, it is high time some of us gathered the wherewithal to push back until corporate America listens and stops its oligarchic advance.

Robert Socha (so-ha), was born in southern California. He served 5 years 3 months active duty in the United States Air Force; honorably. After his service he took an Associate’s Degree in Practical Theology, where, through his studies, developed a deep love of God and Country and sincere appreciation of the value of Liberty. Robert and his beloved wife of 20 years are raising 4 beautiful Texan children. They moved to Hillsdale, Michigan, in 2013, to put their children in Hillsdale Academy. Trevor Montgomery, 49, moved in 2017 to the Intermountain area of Shasta County from Riverside County and runs Riverside County News Source (RCNS) and Shasta County News Source (SCNS).

Additionally, he writes or has written for several other news organizations; including Riverside County-based newspapers Valley News, Valley Chronicle, Anza Valley Outlook, and Hemet & San Jacinto Chronicle; the Bonsall/Fallbrook Village News in San Diego County; and Mountain Echo in Shasta County. Trevor spent 10 years in the U.S. Army as an Orthopedic Specialist before joining the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1998. During his time with the sheriff’s department, Trevor worked at several different stations; including Robert Presley Detention Center, Southwest Station in Temecula, Hemet/Valle Vista Station, Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center, and Lake Elsinore Station; along with other locations.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
