California Highway Patrol and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 5:15 p.m. after receving reports of a vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist.

When officials arrived they found a rider down in the roadway and determined he had already succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified the victim as Jeremy Bell, 50, of Garden Grove. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 5:27 p.m.

A witness later told CHP a small black sedan struck the motorcycle, causing the rider to be ejected onto the roadway. That witness also said a group of other motorcyclists were threatening the sedan’s driver after the fatal collision.

During their initial on-scene investigation, Highway 74 was closed in both directions, causing significant delays in travel times. The roadway was reopened several hours later.
