Corona crash kills one, injures three others

CORONA, Calif., — One person was killed and three others were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Corona Saturday afternoon, July 10. The deadly collision happened at Lincoln Avenue and Mountain Gate Drive, according to officials.

City of Corona police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene around 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a major-injury traffic collision, according to Corona Police Lieutenant Fountain.

Responding officials found a four-vehicle collision, with three of the four vehicles having significant collision damage.

Three of the four drivers were transported to local hospitals due to their injuries, while a fourth victim was evaluated and treated at the scene but did not require further treatment or hospitalization.

One of the drivers, 25-year-old Corona resident Gregory Gibbons, succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the Corona Regional Medical Center. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 1:43 p.m.

Members of Corona PD’s Collision Response Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

“It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash at this time,” said Fountain; adding that the investigation is ongoing.

The collision and subsequent cleanup caused the temporary partial closure of the intersection but the roadway has since been cleared and reopened.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
