REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say a rock-wielding and throwing man was arrested after attacking an elderly woman and employee outside a Redding Cattlemen’s Restaurant Sunday evening, August 8.

When officers arrived the suspect attempted to attack one of them and a K-9 was used to take the combative violent and combative man into custody.

City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the scene around 8:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a rock throwing man attacking citizens and an employee, as well as several vehicles and the restaurant, at the 2184 Hilltop location, Redding Police Corporal Wes Townsley has since said of the violent incident and arrest.

While responding to the disturbance officers learned that an unknown man, later identified as Abdulla Ali Daniels, 44, of Redding, had armed himself with several rocks and began attacking an elderly woman’s black SUV, damaging several of the terrified woman’s vehicle windows.

When a Cattleman’s employee tried to intervene on the victim’s behalf, Daniels began throwing rocks at him too, and chased the employee back into the business, according to Townsley; who said the retreating employee tried to hold the door closed to keep Daniels from entering the restaurant.

The enraged suspect then began throwing rocks through the business’s glass door, as officers were arriving in the area.

Responding officers soon located a man matching the suspect’s description near the restaurant and attempted to contact him.

“Daniels refused the officer’s lawful orders and rushed an officer in an apparent attempt to assault him,” Townsley described; adding that K-9 Miko was deployed to protect the officers and was ultimately successful in subduing the violent and combative rock thrower.

Officials did not say what may have led to the violent and apparently unprovoked attacks.

After being treated at an area hospital and receiving a medical clearance for injuries sustained during his arrest, Daniels was booked into the Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and elder abuse.

Online jail records indicate Daniels remains in custody, where he is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail or bond.

Neither of Daniels’ victims were seriously injured during the attacks; which left multiple vehicle and business windows shattered or damaged and needing to be replaced.
