At around 9:40 p.m., Region 6 Perris / Lake Elsinore Gang Task Force Officers were patrolling in the 500 block of Tomahawk Road in Perris when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspected intoxicated driver, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Jose Ayala reported this morning.
The driver, since identified as Kerry Cornell Williams, a 36-year-old resident of Perris, refused to yield to the deputies’ lights and sirens and immediately sped away from officials, at which time a pursuit was initiated.

“As the vehicle fled from Task Force Officers, the vehicle failed to stop at several stop signs, nearly struck parked vehicles, and drove into opposing lanes of traffic with wanton disregard for public safety,” explained Ayala.
As the pursuit continued, deputies saw Williams throw a firearm from the driver’s side window. The 9mm handgun was later recovered by deputies.
Williams ultimately fled to the 23000 block of Bellamo Lane, where he exited his vehicle while it was still moving and fled on foot, with deputies in hot pursuit right behind him.
Williams was subsequently apprehended by Task Force Officers and arrested. He was later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of felony reckless evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Online jail records indicate Williams remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall Of Justice Aug. 27.
