Perris man, 51, ID’d after fatal Hwy 74 crash

MEADOWBROOK, Calif., — Authorities say a driver was killed in a two-vehicle traffic collision involving a pickup truck and big rig early yesterday morning, Thursday, Sept. 30. The deadly accident happened at the intersection of Hwy 74 and Mazie Avenue, between the cities of Lake Elsinore and Perris, according to Cal Fire-Riverside.

California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire-Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. after receiving reports of the crash, according to a Cal Fire social media release.

Responding officials reported finding a collision between a semi truck and pickup with one critically injured victim. Despite life saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has since identified John Camp, 51, of Perris, as the man killed in the crash. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 5:27 a.m.

No details about how the crash occurred were available and no further information has been released regarding CHP’s investigation, which is continuing.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
