UPDATE: Missing since early November, Yreka man’s body found in Siskiyou County

YREKA, Calif., — Authorities were saddened to announce last night that a man who went missing early on the morning of Nov. 3 was discovered deceased near his pickup truck in a wooded area off Long Gulch Road in the Hawkinsville area of Siskiyou County.

Officials who located the missing man, Kenneth “Kenny” Kyle, 52, of Yreka, had previously said that Kyle was an experienced wood cutter and was believed to have headed out on his own for a day of cutting wood in the forest. They have said it appears he was woodcutting in the area when he passed away.

Officials have also said that there was no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding Kyle’s passing and that their investigation into the cause of his death is continuing.

Yreka Police Department and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office began searching for Kyle after he was reported missing on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Officials reported at the time that Kyle was last seen in the Yreka area and was seen driving his 1990 Ford F150 pickup truck.

“Kenny was born and raised here in Siskiyou County and knows the mountains and back roads better than most,” officials reported early in their investigation.

“He’s an experienced wood cutter, but generally goes by himself,” they added.

The initial searches focused in the Klamath National Forest areas of Greenhorn, Humbug, Beaver Creek, Klamath River, Horsecreek and Seiad; however those searches yielded no results.

As the search for Kyle continued yesterday, at around 11 a.m. a California Highway Patrol – Northern Air Ops helicopter crew that was assisting the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office in their ongoing search spotted Kyle’s missing pickup truck in a heavily forested area off Long Gulch Road.

Unable to land in the area due to the terrain, a deputy was called in to drive to the location, at which time the deputy confirmed locating Kyle deceased at the scene.

“This investigation is still ongoing, and an autopsy will be completed in the near future to determine the manner and cause of death,” officials said in their update.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Kyle during this difficult time. We additionally appreciate all the support and assistance from CHP and the public,” officials added.
