On November 5, a juvenile was arrested for attempted murder after a Riverside Police Detective witnessed him shoot a Riverside area man.

At about 1:56 p.m., officers and detectives of the Riverside Police Department were in the area of 11th St. and Mesa Dr., conducting an investigation regarding a stolen vehicle when a detective witnessed a shooting. The detective immediately called for assistance from available Riverside Police officers.

Officers in the area quickly responded and established a perimeter for the outstanding suspect. Additional officers rushed to the aid of the shooting victim.

Members of the Riverside Police Department’s METRO Team, Riverside County Gang Task Force and the Riverside Police Department’s Gang Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

A subject matching the suspect’s description was detained in the area and through investigative means later determined the suspect to be the person responsible for the earlier witnessed shooting.

The preliminary investigation led to the booking of a 16 year old male juvenile for attempted murder at Riverside County Juvenile Hall.

The victim, a 38-year-old male resident of Riverside, was taken to an area hospital for treatment for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Chad Collopy at 353-7242.
