2 minors shot, wounded at Hunt Park in Riverside

RIVERSIDE – Two juveniles sustained non-life threatening injuries in an unprovoked shooting last night, April 18, at a park in Riverside, according to Riverside Police officials. The non-fatal shooting incident occurred at Hunt Park, located at 4015 Jackson Street.

Officers were first dispatched to the shooting after Riverside Police emergency communications dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from citizens reporting shots being fired at the park shortly before 11 p.m. Some callers reported multiple victims had been shot.

Officers and other emergency first responders rushed to the park, where they found two shooting victims. the victims have been described only as teenage, male juveniles. Both boys had sustained gunshot wounds and required immediate medical treatment.

Paramedics and fire personnel treated the two victims before transporting them to a local hospital for further treatment.

Officers conducted a thorough investigation into the shooting incident and identified a number of witnesses to the shooting. The two young victims and multiple witnesses told investigating officers they saw a dark-colored vehicle pull into the park’s parking lot, before someone from inside the vehicle “fired a number of shots,” according to police officials.

Further investigation revealed one of the juvenile victims of the shooting had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. After he was treated and released from the hospital, officers arrested him and he was later booked into Juvenile Hall on unspecified charges related to the warrant.
