UPDATE: 04/23/2016 12:06 a.m.

MORENO VALLEY – An off-duty police officer helped save the life of a child on April 20, who had reportedly suffered a near-drowning incident in the 15000 block of La Casa Drive in Moreno Valley. Emergency communications dispatchers were first notified about the incident about 5:30 p.m.

The child, described only as 8-years-old, was reportedly “found underwater, at the bottom of a pool, not breathing and unresponsive,” according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman.

While Riverside County firefighters and AMR paramedics rushed to the location to help the child, “an off duty police officer initiated rescue breathing and CPR while a Fire Communications Dispatcher gave additional instructions,” according to Newman.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene “within minutes of being dispatched,” Newman explained. After being treated at the scene, “The patient was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries,” according to Newman.

No further information has been provided regarding the child’s condition.
