UPDATE: Hemet resident killed in Lamb Canyon accident this morning ID’d

Few details have been released after a Hemet resident was killed in an early-morning, three-vehicle wreck this morning, Tuesday, Nov. 29. The fatal, rollover accident happened on Highway 79, between the cities of San Jacinto and Beaumont. The collision was reported at 5:52 a.m.

Coroner’s officials later identified Robyn Baylon, 45, of Hemet, as the victim killed in the collision. According to a coroner’s release, Baylon’s time of injury was determined to be 5:48 a.m. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes later at 6:09 a.m. The exact location of the accident was determined to be northbound Highway 79, about 1.5 miles south of County Landfill Road.

CHP officers, nine firefighters from three engine companies, and AMR medics responded to the deadly accident. When they arrived, emergency first responders found two people who were injured in the collision. One of the two victims, later identified as Baylon, was ejected during the accident and sustained major traumatic injuries. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Firefighter/paramedics treated the two victims at the scene before AMR medics transported the surviving victim by ground ambulance to an area hospital. The victim’s condition was listed as serious, Cal Fire Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer Tawny Castro explained in a press release after the accident.

According to a CHP report, the driver of a Mitsubishi Montero was headed northbound on Highway 79 when he came upon a truck hauling construction equipment in the fast lane. The driver of the SUV attempted to pass the slower-moving truck, lost control of his vehicle, and began to roll. As the SUV overturned, another car smashed into it, according to CHP officials.

Baylon, a passenger in the SUV, was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over.

The wreckage of the two vehicles was left blocking the northbound lanes of 79.

CHP is investigating the cause of the fatal accident.

Anyone with information about the incident or who witnessed the deadly collision is encouraged to contact CHP officials from the San Gorgonio area station at (951) 769-2000. Callers can remain anonymous.

  • Trying to picture the area and can’t. Thought there was a barrier between north and south lanes

    • Me too..and you’re right, there is a barrier along the highway all the way to Beaumont. Unless this accident happened before starting to go uphill into the Lamb Canyon.

      • I have updated my report with new information that better explains the accident. Due to the barrier, the collision occurred in, and only affected the northbound lanes.

        • I actually witnessed event, I was in the vehicle behind the vehicle that struck the vehicle on its roof, I didn’t see any mention of the road grader that was working the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle that rolled, smashed into that grader, which to me appeared to be partially in slow lane…the suv went airborne, and landed on its roof in the fast lane in front of the vehicle in front of me. That car braked hard, and I almost rearended it, and I believe it actually struck the upside down vehicle. As I pulled out and around incident. Road grader was still running down shoulder on two flat tires from impact. I was late for work and left, not realizing the severity of accident. I tried to notify chp, and am currently playing phone tag with investigator.

  • Is there any information on the driver of the car Robyn Baylon was riding in?

  • Praying for those families?and their loss.
