PERRIS – Sheriff’s officials provided additional information regarding this morning’s rollover traffic collision that left two drivers injured, one severely.

The accident happened at the intersection of San Jacinto Avenue and Dunlap Drive, east of Interstate 215 and south of Nuevo Road in Perris.

Emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the rollover traffic collision about 5:43 a.m., according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant J.P. Strang.

Based on the circumstances and severity of one of the driver’s injuries, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Perris station’s Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the location and assumed the investigation.

San Jacinto Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions while rescuers provided medical aid to the drivers and deputies investigated the cause of the collision.

The road was later reopened about 7:30 a.m.

During their investigation, deputies determined a Toyota Tacoma truck driven by James Flack of Sun City was struck broadside by a silver Chevy Cruze driven by Alicia Kilson of Perris, when Kilson failed to  stop for a stop sign at the intersection.

“The violent collision caused the Toyota to roll several times,” Strang explained in a press release after the accident.

Flack sustained major, traumatic injuries in the rollover accident and he was left trapped inside the mangled wreckage of his truck. Firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to safely extricate Flack from his pickup truck before he was transported to a local hospital with “major injuries,” according to Strang.

Kilson suffered minor injuries in the collision. She was treated at the scene and declined further medical treatment.

It was not immediately known if Kilson was cited for running the stop sign leading to the major-injury accident.

Anyone with information on this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Lareau at the Perris Sheriff’s Station, (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number PE170720013 and can remain anonymous. Citizens may also submit a tip using the Sheriff’s CrimeTips online form.

  • Hi, I was just wondering about direction of travel for the truck. Did he come to rest west of the intersection? Also, San Jacinto Avenue is south of Nuevo Rd.
