SAN JACINTO: Woman pistol whipped and shot at during road rage incident, 2 arrested

SAN JACINTO — A woman who was pistol whipped and shot at during a “road rage” related incident later chased the alleged suspects until they crashed into a San Jacinto field, Tuesday afternoon, May 15. Sheriff’s officials who converged on the scene arrested a man and woman and the pair was later booked into jail on multiple felony charges, according to officials.

After their investigation deputies arrested Jorge Demetrio Beltran, 45, of Los Angeles and Marisol Andrade, 21, Hemet, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant James Burton explained in an incident report.

Although officials did not mention a child involved in the incident, based on the alleged suspects’ charges – specifically felony child endangerment – at least one of the involved vehicles had a minor child inside at the time of the shooting.

Deputies assigned to the San Jacinto Police Station and Hemet Sheriff’s Station were first alerted to the road rage incident shortly before 2:30 p.m., when a motorist called 911 to report being physically attacked and repeatedly shot at.

According to the 911 caller, who has not been publicly identified, she had been driving toward San Jacinto from Moreno Valley “when she observed a blue BMW 325i approaching her from behind at a high rate of speed,” said Burton.

“The suspect vehicle engaged the victim in a road rage-type pursuit” until the victim stopped her vehicle at the intersection of State Street and Soboba Road in San Jacinto, Burton continued.

After the victim stopped at the intersection a man, later identified as Beltran, “exited the passenger side of the BMW and struck the victim in the face with a silver semi-automatic handgun,” according to Burton.

Fearing for her life, the victim fled from the intersection with Beltran and Andrade chasing her. She continued driving to the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Sanderson Avenue.

The victim then reportedly saw Beltran “fire three shots toward her vehicle with his handgun,” said Burton.

Officials did not specify if the victim’s vehicle was struck by any of the fired rounds or how many people were inside the victim’s vehicle when the suspects allegedly attacked and shot at her.

Again the victim fled, but when the alleged suspects raced away from the scene she reportedly began following their sedan.

Realizing the victim was following their vehicle, Andrade – who had been driving the BMW – attempted to flee the area at a high rate of speed. The woman continued fleeing until she “lost control and crashed in a field east of State St., south of Soboba Rd.,” said Burton

More than a dozen deputies – who had already been racing to the area – converged at the scene of the crash “moments after the accident” was reported, according to Burton.

Deputies quickly detained and later questioned Beltran and Andrade about the alleged incident.

During a subsequent search of Andrade’s BMW, deputies located and seized a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun the victim described inside the sedan.

Based on their investigation deputies arrested Beltran and Andrade. Both were booked into Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, assault with a deadly weapon/firearm, shooting at an inhabited vehicle, and willful harm to a child.

Jail records indicate both alleged suspects remain in custody on $50,000 bail each, and both are scheduled to be arraigned at Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta May 17.
