MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Authorities investigating last month’s stabbing of a man in an area known as “Poorman’s Reservoir” located and arrested two San Bernardino men they say were involved in a conspiracy to murder the victim.

Although the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially hospitalized in critical condition he has since recovered, according to officials.

Deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Police Station responded to a 911 call reporting a man who had been stabbed Saturday, June 16, near the intersection of Heacock St. and Parkland Ave. According to sheriff’s officials, the stabbing happened in a flood-control basin commonly referred to as “Poorman’s Reservoir.”

Deputies arrived at the scene within minutes and located a 19-year-old male, suffering from multiple stab wounds, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike Koehler explained after the arrest of two men officials say were involved in the violent confrontation.

“Officers immediately began rendering first aid until lifesaving efforts were assumed by medical professionals,” said Koehler. The victim was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, but has since been released.

Based on the circumstances, Moreno Valley PD’s Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation. As their investigation continued, SET members developed leads and gathered information that led them to identify Reynaldo Antonio Caceres and Kewin Martinez-Castro as the alleged attackers. Both alleged suspects are 19-years-old, according to Koehler.

SET members eventually tracked down the two men and arrested both. Jail records indicate Caceras was located June 29, in the area of E. Foothill Blvd. and Citrus Ave, in Fontana, and Martinez-Castro was located July 13, on Holly Vista Blvd., in San Bernardino.

Both men were booked into Riverside County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder and both remain in custody, held in lieu of $1 million bail.
