RIVERSIDE — Authorities are investigating a two-car collision that left three people injured Thursday, Aug. 23. The initial rear-end crash led to a second accident after the car that caused the collision hit a Riverside home.

When officials arrived they found the still smoking silver Honda, which had sustained major front-end damage, and a black Hyundai Veloster with moderate rear-end damage.

Officers investigating the crash learned the driver of the Honda had been traveling northeast on Collett approaching Napa Ln. when it plowed into the back of the Hyundai, which was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Collett Ave. and Napa Ln.

The driver of the Honda, who was reportedly unlicensed and uninsured, later told officers investigating the crash that the impact caused his accelerator to stick. Unable to stop his car, the driver made a right-hand turn on Elk Blvd. and continued until he crashed into a home on Elk Blvd. and Napa Ln.

Paramedics evaluated the four occupants of the two cars and determined two adults and a minor were in the Hyundai and all sustained minor injuries.

The home and garage door struck by the unlicensed driver were left damaged, but the house was still habitable after the crash.

It was not immediately known if anyone was hospitalized after the collision, which is still under investigation.
