PALM DESERT — Officials have identified an elderly woman who died in a crash between a golf cart and passenger vehicle Friday afternoon, Nov. 30. The deadly accident happened in the area of Desert Greens Dr. South and Chimney Flats Drive, just south of Palm Desert Greens Golf Course.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials identified last night Genevieve Hornak, 89, of Palm Desert, as the victim killed in the collision. A coroner’s release indicated Hornak was transported to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage where she succumbed to her injuries about an hour-and-a-half after the crash and was pronounced deceased at 5:32 p.m.

Palm Desert PD’s investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

PALM DESERT — An elderly woman died after a collision between a golf cart and a passenger vehicle in Palm Desert, Friday afternoon, Nov. 30. The deadly crash happened in the area of Desert Greens Dr. South and Chimney Flats Drive, just south of Palm Desert Greens Golf Course.

Friday’s fatal accident was the second deadly incident involving a golf cart in as many days, after a 77-year-old Aguanga man was struck and killed by a 73-year-old driving a golf cart inside an Aguanga RV community just east of Temecula.

Deputies assigned to Palm Desert Police Station, Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters, and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the accident about 3:51 p.m., after receiving reports of a major-injury traffic collision involving a golf cart and vehicle, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Rod LaBrecque explained after the deadly accident.

“An elderly female driver of one of the vehicles was later pronounced deceased at the hospital,” said LaBrecque.

Based on the circumstances, members of Palm Desert PD’s Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the accident investigation.

During their initial on-scene investigation, Traffic Team deputies determined the golf cart was traveling eastbound on Desert Greens Dr. S. and attempted to turn left onto Chimney Flats Dr. when it collided with a vehicle traveling westbound. The other driver was reportedly uninjured in the accident.

“At this time, it is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor of the collision,” said LaBrecque.

Palm Desert PD’s investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
