Man arrested after stabbing, slashing, g’pa in face 20 times

FONTANA — A 61-year-old man is recovering today after suffering serious facial and head trauma when his own grandson “stabbed and slashed” him “twenty times” during an argument at a private residence Monday evening, Dec. 10.  The victim is expected to survive, “but with severe facial trauma and disfigurement,” Fontana PD reported after the incident and arrest.

The alleged suspect was later arrested after holding another family against their will, when he went into their home while still armed with the bloody knife and told them he had just killed his grandfather.

When officials arrived at the scene they learned Anthony Hernandez, 21, of Fontana, had “stabbed and slashed his grandfather 20 times in the face and head causing great bodily injury,” Fontana PD later explained. ” The victim was able to flee for help and was transported to Kaiser Hospital Fontana for treatment.”

Investigating officers soon learned that after the violent incident Hernandez fled to a neighbor’s house “asking to come inside with a bloody knife in hand,” Fontana PD explained. “Once inside he told the family he had just killed his grandfather.”

Hernandez reportedly refused to allow the terrified family leave or use the telephone, holding them inside the residence against their will.

Officers eventually learned where Hernandez was hiding and made contact with him at the front door of the neighbor’s home, where he was apprehended without further incident.

No one inside the second residence was injured and the alleged suspect’s grandfather is expected to survive, despite severe facial trauma and disfigurement.

Hernandez was later booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of attempted homicide and false imprisonment, Fontana PD reported.
