Two women apprehended after suspected DUI hit and run

HEMET — Minor injuries were reported after a suspected DUI hit and run traffic collision that caused one of two involved vehicles to overturn Saturday evening, Mar. 2. The rollover crash initially left several people trapped inside a pickup truck that overturned; however, good Samaritans who came to the victims’ aid helped the truck’s occupants safely out of their wrecked vehicle.

Two females who attempted to flee the scene of the crash on foot were later located and apprehended by Hemet police officers who responded to the scene of the crash. Although the driver was suspected of being under the influence when she plowed into the pickup truck, it was not immediately known if she was arrested or charged.

City of Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the intersection of Stetson Ave. and S. Buena Vista St. around 9 p.m., after receiving multiple reports of the collision. 911 callers reported there were victims trapped inside a truck that overturned. Callers also reported that two Hispanic females who had been inside a sedan that hit the truck had fled the scene on foot.

When officials arrived they found a white pickup on its side against a street sign. A black sedan with heavy front-end damage was stopped nearby in the lanes of traffic.

First responders soon learned that about a dozen good Samaritans who had witnessed the collision had already worked together to help extricate the victims from the overturned truck.

While paramedics evaluated and treated the truck’s occupants, police officers began searching for the two females who fled the scene of the crash. Witnesses told officers the pair was last seen walking north on Buena Vista St., and officials soon spotted and detained them.

The female passenger who fled the scene was later transported to an area hospital for further evaluation of unspecified injuries.

The driver who fled was reportedly uninjured and was later transported to Hemet PD for further investigation and toxicology tests.

It was not immediately known if any of the victims from the overturned truck were injured or required further evaluation or treatment.

Hemet PD’s hit and run collision investigation is ongoing.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
