DHS man charged with att’d murder after warrant uncovers multiple weapons

DESERT HOT SPRINGS — A known gang member and felon is behind bars after officials allege he was involved in a shooting in an unincorporated area of Palm Springs, March 10. “During the incident, two victims were fired upon while driving,” officials later explained.

During the service of a search warrant at the man’s Desert Hot Springs residence, Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force members located and seized two AR-15 assault-style rifles, a 20-gauge rifle, and a stolen sawed-off shotgun. As a felon, the man, later identified as 25-year-old, Angel Ovalle Favares, is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms of any kind.

As part of their ongoing investigation into the shooting, at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, CVVCGTF members served a search warrant in the 15000 block of Avenida Atezada, in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Heredia later explained.

During the service of the search warrant task force officers located multiple firearms and arrested Favares. Jail records indicate he was arrested on W. Del Sol, in Palm Springs.

Favares was later booked into Indio Jail on suspicion of seven felonies; including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of making criminal threats, being a felon in possession of firearms, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, and recklessly evading police officers. It was not immediately known if all Favares’s charges were related to the single incident and search warrant, or if the man had unrelated warrants.

Jail records indicate Favares remains in custody and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Indio’s Larsen Justice Center tomorrow morning, March 22.
