UPDATE: Family grieving after crash kills Australian native, Shasta College student, 21

UPDATED: Thursday, March 21, 1:30 p.m., With additional details.

ANDERSON — Officials have identified a man who died after a single vehicle, rollover traffic collision in Anderson, Sunday morning, March 17. CHP has stated that excessive speed is considered to have been a contributing factor in the deadly crash, which happened on China Gulch Rd., west of Canyon Rd.

Last Sunday’s fatal accident was similar to another tragic crash that happened just ten miles away and took the life of a Cottonwood teen last October. Excessive speed along a curving roadway was determined to be a contributing factor in that crash as well, when the 16-year-old lost control of his SUV and crashed into a tree.

Shasta County Coroner officials have since identified 21-year-old, Cody Joel Beaumont, of Redding, as the victim killed in last Sunday’s accident. Beaumont’s grieving mother, Kim Beaumont, has said she has been relying heavily on her faith to get her through the loss of her youngest son.

“No words can describe how we are feeling and how much we will always love you,” Kim wrote on social media the day after the crash. “Our lives will never be the same.”

Cody Beaumont, 21, was killed March 17 when he lost control of his vehicle on a sweeping curve along China Gulch Rd.

At around 7:20 a.m. on the morning of the crash, Beaumont was alone while driving a BMW eastbound on China Gulch Rd. According to CHP, Beaumont was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle while trying to negotiate a sweeping right turn in the roadway. After losing control, Beaumont’s BMW careened off the roadway, overturned, and struck a tree.

“The decedent suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” coroner officials later said.

A post-mortem has been scheduled and CHP’s investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is ongoing.

Beaumont grew up in Australia and moved to the Redding area while in high school, where he played soccer. He was attending Shasta College, where he was well-known as a star athlete.

After learning of Beaumont’s passing, Shasta College released a statement that read in part that the school and their Track and Field program lost a “beloved team member.”

Calling Beaumont “a tremendous teammate, leader, and friend,” who “possessed incredible athletic ability,” the release said, “Cody was a tremendous athlete and an even better person. His efforts and dedication allowed him to become a GVC Champion in multiple events.”

“His energetic smile, quirky sense of humor and relentless competitiveness will be greatly missed,” the release continued.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe account to help bring his body home to Australia, as well as to cover burial expenses and other costs.

The family has also requested that anyone with a favorite photo or video of the victim send them to [email protected] “No matter your relationship with Cody, we’d love to have these for our family,” Kim explained on social media.

A memorial service has been scheduled at Bethel Church, 933 College View Dr., in Redding, at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 28. A second memorial service will be held in Beaumont’s native Australia, Thursday, April 4.
