One hospitalized after two-vehicle wreck involving RSO patrol SUV

HEMET — Officials are investigating the cause of a two-vehicle collision involving a sheriff’s patrol vehicle and mini-van in Hemet this morning, Saturday, Oct. 19. Today’s accident, which resulted in one driver being hospitalized with minor injuries, happened in the area of E. Menlo Ave and Glenn Way, just east of N. Santa Fe St. and south of the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery.

Although few details have been released due to the ongoing nature of the ongoing investigation, Hemet Police Cpl. Paez told RCNS in a telephone interview that Hemet Police and Fire Departments, along with Riverside County sheriff’s personnel and AMR, responded to reports of the traffic collision around 11:53 a.m. this morning.

When officials arrived they found two damaged vehicles blocking the roadway. The vehicles included a marked, black and white patrol SUV with moderate driver-side impact damage and multiple airbags deployed, and dark-colored Nissan Quest mini-van with minor front-end and passenger side impact damage.

The driver of the mini-van was evaluated and treated at the scene before being transported to Hemet Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries described as minor.

“The deputy involved in the accident was uninjured and did not require hospitalization,” Riverside Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Deputy Mike Vasquez told RCNS; while referring all other inquiries to Hemet Police Department whose officers are investigating the cause of the minor injury collision.

It was not immediately known if the deputy involved in the crash was responding to a call for service or was on routine patrol when the crash occurred.

When asked about the cause of the collision, Paez said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and he was not able to release any further information about the collision or HPD’s investigation, which is active and ongoing.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.

Trevor Montgomery, 48, moved last year to the Intermountain area of Shasta County from Riverside County and runs Riverside County News Source and Shasta County News Source. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 29 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
