CHP and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene just after 1:30 p.m., after receiving reports of a motorcycle that crashed into a pickup truck along the winding mountain roadway.

When officials arrived at the scene they determined a male driver and female passenger from the motorcycle had been ejected and sustained major traumatic injuries.

Despite life-saving measures, the couple succumbed to their injuries about twenty minutes after the fatal crash and both were pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials later identified Larry Scott, 56, and Robin Scott, 54, as the couple killed in the crash. A coroner’s release indicated the couple passed away within minutes of each other.

During their investigation officers determined Larry Scott was driving a Harley Davidson with Robin Scott as passenger northbound on SR-243 approaching Marian View Dr. just before the deadly crash, according to CHP spokesperson Officer Darren Meyer.

At the same time, 47-year-old Idyllwild resident Carlos Alberto Adames, was driving southbound on SR-243, south of Marian View Dr., in a white Ford F-150. He had two passengers, 45-year-old, Kirsten Ebner, and a 15-year-old girl with him in the truck.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Harley Davidson crossed the double yellow lines and into the southbound lane occupied by the Ford,” explained Meyer. “The Harley Davidson struck the left side of the Ford, causing both occupants of the Harley Davidson to be ejected.”

The driver of the Ford and his two passengers were uninjured, according to Meyer.

As their investigation continued officers called for the temporary closure of SR-243 in both directions and traffic was diverted around the closure using Saunders Meadow Rd. to prevent major traffic delays. The roadway remained closed for about two and a half hours.

Alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in the cause of this collision and officials have determined that neither of the victims were wearing Department of Transportation (DOT) approved
helmets.

CHP’s investigation is ongoing.
