Redding transient arrested after vehicle theft, burglaries
REDDING — Already “well-known to law enforcement officers”, a Redding transient was arrested again after allegedly stealing a car and then using the stolen vehicle while burglarizing other cars, Tuesday morning, April 7.
Although the alleged suspect attempted to flee from officers, he was ultimately apprehended and later booked into jail.

Redding police officers were first alerted to the vehicle theft around 6:45 a.m., after a Redding grocery store worker called 911 to report that his vehicle had been stolen while sitting in the victim’s driveway on the 1100 block of Court St. warming up before leaving for work, Redding PD later explained.
About thirty minutes later, while officers were beginning to investigate the vehicle theft, officers received a report of a vehicle burglary in progress behind Shasta Regional Medical Center about a half-mile away, on the 1400 block of Liberty St.
“The suspect in the vehicle burglary was reported by a witness as leaving in a vehicle that matched the earlier reported stolen vehicle,” explained RPD, saying, “An officer was in the area quickly and observed the vehicle leaving, recognizing it was in fact the stolen vehicle.”

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop at which time the driver, later identified as 27-year old Jordan Ericksson, pulled the vehicle into the parking lot of Shasta Regional Medical Center, where he immediately ditched the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.
As other officers converged on the area and Ericksson ran westbound across East St. and through a business complex a foot chase ensued.
Despite attempting to elude officers, the fleeing man was apprehended a few blocks away, in the area of Pine and Butte streets.
After his apprehension, officers discovered Ericksson was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Officers also located Ericksson’s backpack, which he left in the stolen vehicle when he abandoned it, had several stolen items inside it.
Ericksson was later booked into Shasta County Jail on suspicion of grand theft auto, possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest.
Online jail records indicate Ericksson was no longer in custody and had already been released from incarceration.
After Ericksson’s arrest, RPD used the opportunity to remind area residents “to exercise good safety habits” and to “protect yourself from being an easy victim of crime.”
“Although it is cold in the morning, we do not recommend leaving your vehicle unattended and unsecured while running,” officials explained. “It only takes seconds for a thief to strike.”
