One arrested, one sought after Shasta Lake burglary

CITY OF SHASTA LAKE, Calif. — Authorities say a Shasta Lake burglary led to a traffic stop and the arrest of a convicted felon early Friday morning, May 22. Officials who made the arrest are continuing to search for another man involved in the burglary who fled from deputies who conducted the traffic stop and was not located at the time.

During the stop deputies recovered property stolen from a private residence on the 13000 block of Pit St., including a side-by-side all terrain vehicle.

Deputies assigned to City of Shasta Lake were dispatched to the area around 5:30 a.m., after an alert neighbor reported a burglary in progress, Shasta County Sheriff’s Sgt. K. Bodner reported after the incident and arrest.

The 911 caller told SHASCOM emergency dispatchers that two men were burglarizing his neighbors property and had loaded a UTV onto a trailer being pulled by a light-colored Dodge pickup truck and were preparing to leave the rural property.

Deputies, who were already in the area at the time of the call spotted the Dodge leaving the area and initiated an investigatory traffic stop near the intersection of Hill and Lake boulevards.

Although the driver yielded to the officer’s lights and pulled over to the side of the road, as the pickup came to a stop a passenger fled on foot into the densely wooded area of the stop.

Deputies detained the driver, later identified as Derrek Bauer, and began searching for the passenger, but were unsuccessful in finding him, according to Bodner.

During a subsequent search of Bauer’s pickup, deputies located items believed to have been stolen during the burglary, including the UTV that was loaded onto Bauer’s trailer.

Deputies also found a loaded firearm in Bauer’s pickup and discovered he was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.

The victim of the burglary was notified and responded to the scene of the traffic stop, where he identified the UTV along with other property stolen from his residence during the burglary.

Deputies arrested Derrek Bauer after he and another unidentified man allegedly burglarized a Shasta Lake property. During their investigation, deputies recovered items stolen from the property and found a loaded handgun as well as methamphetamine in Bauer’s possession.

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Bauer and transported him to Shasta County Jail in Redding where he was booked on suspicion of burglary, vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Online jail records indicate Bauer has since been released from custody, pending his arraignment.

Deputies are continuing to search for the man who fled from the initial traffic stop, according to Bodner; who described the man as a white male with a thin build, wearing a fluorescent green Hi-Viz type construction vest and blue jeans.
