Shootout between San Jacinto teen and Banning man leaves teen dead

SAN JACINTO, Calif. — Authorities say a deadly, gunfight between a teen and adult in a residential San Jacinto neighborhood near the Soboba Springs Golf Course ended with both subjects shot early Sunday morning, July 5.

A 15-year-old involved in the early morning shooting later died at an area hospital, according to officials who say the fatal encounter happened on the 700 block of Torino Ave., between Ramona Expressway and Soboba Rd.

The deadly shooting was the first of two homicides to rock the San Jacinto valley on Sunday, with the second deadly incident happening just a few miles away after a 47-year-old San Jacinto woman was found dead with injuries inside a private residence.

Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the scene around 4 a.m., after receiving reports of a shooting, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Brosche has since reported.

“When deputies arrived, they located an adult male and a male juvenile suffering from apparent gunshot wounds,” according to Brosche; who said both subjects were transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for their gunshot injuries.

Despite life-saving efforts, the male juvenile, since identified as Humberto Kolb, a 15-year-old from San Jacinto, succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital.

The adult male, since identified as Jaime Madrid, a 25-year-old from Banning, is expected to recover from his injuries.

Based on the circumstances, San Jacinto Station and Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their subsequent investigation, officials learned that “Kolb and Madrid were both involved in a fight, which led to them shooting each other” explained Brosche.

Although no arrests had been made as of this report, Brosche said there are no outstanding suspects and the sheriff’s investigation is still active and ongoing at the scene.
