Woman, 39, killed crossing Hemet street
HEMET, Calif. — Authorities say a 39-year-old Hemet woman has died after she was struck by a car while trying to cross a busy Hemet street Friday evening, Sept. 18.
The deadly collision, which was the second pedestrian involved fatality to happen in Hemet in the last four days, occurred on the 600 block of Stetson Ave., between Gilbert St. and Palm Ave.
The other fatal incident this week involved a 66-year-old Hemet woman who was fatally struck while riding a three-wheeled, electric mobility scooter near the center of a darkened Hemet street late Tuesday evening, Sept. 15.

City of Hemet Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene about 8:19 p.m., after receiving multiple reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian, Hemet Police Sgt. Dan Reinbolt has since said of the fatal accident.
When officials arrived at the scene they found a pedestrian down in the eastbound lanes of Stetson Ave.

“Tragically, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Reinbolt; adding, “The driver of the vehicle, a 77-year-old woman who resides in Hemet, remained on scene and cooperated with police.”
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified the victim as Marivelle Cook. A Coroner’s release indicated Cook was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel at 8:28 p.m.
During their subsequent investigation officers learned the victim was walking across Stetson Ave. about mid-block, from the north side toward the south side, between Gilbert St. and Palm Ave.
“Unfortunately, the pedestrian crossed in front of a 2012 Hyundai sedan which was traveling east on Stetson Avenue and a collision occurred,” Reinbolt described; adding, “It is not clear why the pedestrian decided to cross the roadway at this location.”
Although Hemet PD’s investigation is ongoing, officers have ruled out alcohol or drug intoxication on the part of the driver involved in the deadly collision.
While officials worked at the scene, officers called for the temporary closure of Stetson Ave., between Gilbert St. and Palm Ave. The roadway was re-opened about four hours later when Hemet PD concluded their initial on-scene investigation.
