Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire-Riverside and AMR, were dispatched to the scene at 1:20 a.m., after receiving several 911 calls from citizens reporting a major injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Anthony Pelato has since said of the collision and arrest.

When officials arrived, they located a man trapped underneath a vehicle in the intersection, according to Pelato; who said the bicyclist was found suffering from major injuries to his legs.

“The man’s bicycle was located near him,” Pelato said; adding, “The bicycle had damage that was consistent with being struck by a car.”

Paramedics treated the injured bicyclist at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital for further treatment. His current condition has not been updated and was not known as of this report.

The driver of the car, since identified as 22-year-old, Dejon Jaques Lespinasse, remained on scene and cooperated with investigating deputies, according to Pelato; who reported, “It was determined the driver of the car was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Lespinasse and he was later booked into Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury. Online jail records indicate he remains in custody of $50,000 bail or bond.
