Child torture charges filed against Moreno Valley couple

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — A Moreno Valley couple has been arrested and charged with torture and other charges after a 4-year-old child in their care was critically injured last January.

Authorities say the nearly year-long investigation revealed the victim suffered life-threatening traumatic head, facial and brain injuries at the hands of the pair and have said the child remains in a nursing facility for long-term care.

The investigation began in January, 2020 when the 4-year-old victim was admitted into the Loma Linda Medical Center with life-threatening injuries to the head, face and brain, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Nathan Kaas said after the suspect’s arrest yesterday.

“The year-long investigation revealed further information indicating the victim’s injuries were a result of physical abuse inflicted while under the care of both suspects,” Kass reported; saying the suspects have been identified as 45-year-old, Michael Joe Macliz Sr. and 47-year-old, Christina Michael Daniela Rivera.

As a result of their investigation, officials obtained $1 million warrants for both suspects for child endangerment and torture, according to Kass; who said that on Thursday, Dec. 17 about 6:30 p.m., investigators assigned to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested Macliz Sr. and Rivera.

Both were later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside where they remain in custody.
