City of Redding police officers were dispatched to the business shortly before 9:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a burglary alarm at the location, Redding Police Sergeant Rob Garnero later said of the burglary and arrest.

When officers arrived at the business they found the front glass door was shattered and confirmed entry had been made into the business.

Officers searched and secured the location, finding nobody inside, according to Garnero.

The business’s manager responded to the scene and was able to provide officers with video surveillance of the burglary, that “clearly depicted a male suspect break into the business by shattering the front glass door with a hatchet,” Garnero described.

The video also showed the man steal cannabis products from a display.

At around 9 a.m. the next morning, officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Duane Avenue, less than a mile from the Synergy cannabis dispensary, regarding the report of an unknown male transient sitting in a chair on the front porch of a private residence.

Responding officers contacted 39-year-old Ryan Sullivan and immediately noticed that he was wearing identical clothing to the suspect depicted on video surveillance from the prior evening’s burglary.

“Upon further investigation, Sullivan was also found to be in possession of cannabis products which were stolen from Synergy,” Garnero explained.

Based on their investigation officers arrested Garnero. He was later interviewed at the Redding Police Detective Division before he was booked into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of commercial burglary and possession of stolen property.

Online jail records indicate he had already been released from custody as of this afternoon.
