San Jacinto boy, 15, riding off-road motorcycle on city streets killed in three-vehicle crash

SAN JACINTO, Calif., — Authorities say a teen riding an off-road motorcycle on city streets in San Jacinto was killed in a three-vehicle crash when he plowed into the back of a passenger vehicle Friday afternoon, Nov. 19. That initial crash caused a second collision when the impact caused the car to collide with an SUV.

The deadly accident, which sent one of the other involved drivers to the hospital with minor injuries, occurred at the intersection of Lake Park Drive and Soboba Road, according to officials.

California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire – Riverside, and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 12:10 p.m. after receiving reports of a three-vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist and two other vehicles, CHP Officer E. Nunez has since reported.

When officials arrived they found an off-road motorcycle down in the southbound lanes of Soboba Road with its critically injured rider down in the roadway nearby. Officials also found two other involved vehicles, described as a 2018 Honda Accord being driven by a 72-year-old woman and a 2020 Jeep Rubicon being driven by a 74-year-old man.

Paramedics found the young and unlicensed motorcyclist had sustained major, blunt force trauma and began life-saving efforts. The teen was then rushed to Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley where he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office has since identified Carlos Munoz, 15, of San Jacinto, as the teen killed in the collision. A Coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at 1:02 p.m.

During their subsequent investigation, CHP determined Munoz was traveling northbound on Soboba Road at an estimated speed of 50 mph when he crashed into the back of a northbound Honda Accord, Nunez explained.

The impact of that collision caused the woman’s Honda to veer forward and to the left, directly into the path of an oncoming Jeep, where those two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the Honda, who suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, was transported to Hemet Valley Hospital as a precaution, Nunez said; adding that the Jeep’s driver was not injured in the collision.

CHP’s investigation is active and ongoing and no further details have been released.
