REDDING, Calif., — Authorities say a targeted traffic stop and subsequent home search based on a search warrant led to the seizure of around four pounds of methamphetamine, an Uzi submachine gun, AR-15 assault rifle, and ammunition, along with sales-related packaging material and narcotics paraphernalia in Redding Friday afternoon, Jan. 21.

Armed with a search warrant, at around 2:50 p.m., officers from the Redding Police Department’s Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU) conducted a targeted traffic enforcement stop on a Ford Edge SUV being driven by 45-year-old Redding resident, Stan Stroud, according to Redding Police Sergeant Paul Slagle.

During the stop, officers searched the interior of the vehicle and located approximately four pounds of suspected methamphetamine in the back seat of the Ford. Stroud was also found to have a large amount of US currency.

At the conclusion of the stop, officers proceeded to Stroud’s residence in the 2800 block of Tropicana Court, to serve the search warrant. When officers arrived at the home they observed Harrison Branum, 57, of Redding, sitting in a blue Mazda parked in the driveway of the residence, according to Slagle.

“Branum was known to be on CDCR Parole for a prior violation of terrorist threats,” the Sergeant explained. “Branum was detained in the driveway and a search of the Mazda revealed additional methamphetamine packaged for distribution.”

In accordance with the search warrant, NPU officers then searched the interior of the residence and located an AR-15 assault-style rifle, Uzi submachine gun, and ammunition for the two firearms. Officers also located sales and packaging material along with narcotics-related paraphernalia.

Based on their investigation, officers arrested both Stroud and Branum, who were then transported to the Shasta County Jail in Redding.

Stroud was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales, transportation of a controlled substance, prohibited person possessing a firearm, prohibited person possessing ammunition, criminal conspiracy, possession of an illegal assault weapon, possession of a machine gun, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

Branum was booked on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales, violating parole, and criminal conspiracy.

Online jail records indicate both men have since been released and are no longer in custody.
