Work to recover truck continuing after solo-vehicle crash near Round Mountain

ROUND MOUNTAIN, Calif., — Officials are continuing to work at the scene of a non-injury traffic accident involving a service truck that went off the side of the roadway on SR-299E, west of Round Mountain.

The solo-vehicle accident happened in the 4800 block of SR-299E near mile marker 47, northeast of Oak Run Road, according to a CHP Incident Log and official radio traffic. Although the accident has caused some reported delays, no significant delays in travel times have been reported.

California Highway Patrol and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports that a service truck had gone off the roadway and down a steep embankment leading to Cedar Creek, which runs adjacent to the eastbound side of the rural and winding two-lane mountain highway.

911 callers reported the driver was seen out of the pickup and said he was walking around and did not appear to be injured.

Responding officials reported the service truck was found off the roadway, with its rear wheels near the creek and its front wheels facing the top of the steep embankment.

At around 8:45 p.m., a tow truck driver updated that he was not able to recover the vehicle and would need to bring a wrecker out to the scene to complete the recovery.

As of this update, the vehicle remained off the side of the roadway awaiting the wrecker’s arrival.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
