City of Riverside police officers were dispatched to the neighborhood shortly after 4 p.m., after receiving reports of a stabbing that had just occurred, RPD officials have since reported.

Although the alleged suspect initially fled to his residence around the corner on the 3900 block of Shelby Dr., he later returned to the scene and waited for police to arrive.

When officers arrived at the scene he was detained without incident and cooperative in the investigation, according to officials, who said officers also found a man down on the ground with a knife wound to his chest. They immediately began lifesaving measures until paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department arrived and took over.

Despite life-saving efforts the victim died at the scene, according to officials.

The victim has since been identified as Joel Carrillo, 30, of Riverside. A coroner’s release indicated Carrillo was pronounced deceased at 4:27 p.m.
