Boy suffers “significant injuries” after Temecula assault, attempted sodomy

TEMECULA, Calif. — Authorities say they arrested a man who allegedly beat and attempted to sodomize a teenage boy in Temecula in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 23.

The incident, which left the teen hospitalized with “significant injuries”, happened in a wash area southeast of Temecula and Pechanga parkways, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Edmond Seltzer later said of the incident and arrest. The area where the incident occurred is known for homeless encampments and transient activity.

Deputies and investigators assigned to the Southwest Sheriff’s Station began investigating the alleged incident around 4:30 a.m., according to Seltzer.

During their investigation, officials learned the alleged suspect, Juan Nacib Salman, 44, had physically and sexually attacked the teen, leading to the victim’s traumatic injuries.

“Salman allegedly attacked the juvenile victim, striking him several times with a blunt object, then attempted to sodomize the victim before the victim got away and ran for help,” Seltzer described.

“The teenage, male victim had several, significant injuries and was admitted to a local hospital for treatment,” Seltzer continued.

Salman was located and arrested for the assault around noon, according to records.

After his arrest Salman was booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted sodomy and willful harm to a child.

Online jail records indicate Salman remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Murrieta Southwest Justice Center later this month.

The Sheriff’s investigation ongoing.
