Suffering engine failure, plane hits two cars while landing on Jurupa Valley street
JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. — A pilot walked away uninjured after her plane suffered what officials later called a “hard landing” after she reported engine failure and clipped two vehicles while trying to land on a Jurupa Valley street just outside two parks adjacent to the Flabob Airport Thursday afternoon, Feb. 4.
After clipping the two vehicles, which were parked and unoccupied at the time, the plane ended up nose down on Crestmore Road, between Loring Ranch Road and Fort Drive, along a section of road that separates the Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park and Crestmore Manor – Riverside County Regional Park & Open-Space District.
Thursday’s hard-landing was the first of two plane mishaps to occur in Riverside County within 24 hours, followed by an aircraft that ended up on its roof after crashing at the Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport in Thermal Friday afternoon. The pilot was uninjured in the crash.

Cal Fire-Riverside and Riverside County Sheriff’s personnel responded to the scene around 12:50 p.m. after receiving reports of an aircraft emergency with a plane down, Cal Fire later said of the accident.
Officials began arriving within minutes of the dispatched call and found a two-seat, single-engine 1965 Cessna 150 nose down just off the roadway, directly between the two parks. The pilot, who was uninjured and later declined to be identified at the scene, had already self-extricated from the aircraft and she was waiting for the arrival of emergency personnel.
A plane and two vehicles sustained minor damage but its sole-occupant was uninjured when the aircraft’s pilot reported engine failure and tried to land on Crestmore Road, just southeast of the Flabob airport in Jurupa Valley.
The edge of the plane’s right front wing and right elevator were torn off when the aircraft struck the two parked cars and the aircraft’s nose and propellor were damaged, but there was no fire and no fuel leak, Cal Fire later reported, adding that a county Hazardous Materials Team was canceled prior to their arrival.
Although it was not immediately clear if the plane was taking off or landing when the pilot reported the engine’s failure, based on the plane’s direction of travel and evidence at the scene it appeared the aircraft was likely taking off when she reported the emergency, banked hard left to the east, and then attempted to land on Crestmore Road.

The two parked vehicles struck sustained minor damage and nobody on the ground was injured when the accident occurred.
