Officers were dispatched to 2602 Hilltop Drive at 3:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a possible armed carjacking, Redding Police Sergeant Mark Montgomery later said of the incident and arrest.

Two adult female victims told officers that Paul Dean Tabash, 47 of Yreka, had brandished a handgun and threatened to kill them while they were together in a vehicle.

Although the two women were able to get out of the vehicle, Tabash convinced a third victim to drive him “north”, said Montgomery.

Responding officers eventually located the vehicle traveling northbound on I-5 and stopped the vehicle at the SR-299 interchange, where Tabash was taken into custody without incident.

Arresting officers discovered Tabash had two handguns in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Based on their investigation, officers booked Tabash into Shasta County Jail in Redding on suspicion of eleven felonies and a misdemeanor including being a felon in possession of two handguns and ammunition; making terrorist threats; false imprisonment; brandishing a handgun and other charges.

Online jail records indicate Tabash remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 bail or bond.
