Wanted Riverside felon arrested after hotel search leads to firearm, drugs
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Authorities say a transient with an “extensive criminal history”, who was already on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm, was arrested again outside a Riverside hotel Friday afternoon, May 14.
McCary has numerous arrests and convictions in Riverside County, including a December, 2016 incident where he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle, stolen wallet and narcotics while out on bail on other felony charges. Another incident involving McCary and a stolen vehicle investigation caused the lock down of an elementary school, after McCary fled from officers. He was later found to be in possession of a backpack stuffed with “numerous loaded firearms and several hundred rounds of various caliber ammunition,” officials reported at the time.

City of Riverside police officers contacted Steven Anthony McCary, a 35-year-old Jurupa Valley transient, around 12:45 p.m. after seeing him outside the Iowa Dynasty Suites in the area of Iowa and University avenues, Riverside PD later said in a social media release.
When they contacted McCary they learned he was on probation for a prior weapons violation and had two outstanding felony drug-related warrants for his arrest.
After learning that McCary was staying at the hotel they searched his room, at which time they discovered a loaded handgun and a large amount of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine and heroin, “along with cash and other items that showed he is involved in selling drugs,” officials said in their release.
Officers arrested McCary and he was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of several drug and weapons violations, his felony warrants, and violation of PRCS probation.
